An extremely rare hemiassarion from Cius
Lot 391
BITHYNIA. Cius. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 20 mm, 4.24 g, 6 h), time of the Antonines, 138-192. KIA-NΩN Lion Skin draped over club. Rev. Laurel wreath. BMC -. RG p. 315, 20 corr. (as 3rd century BC). RPC -. SNG von Aulock -. Extremely rare and very interesting. Very fine.

This issue has been dated to the 3rd century BC in RG, which is highly unlikely indeed. The style, fabric and lettering clearly point toward a pseudo-autonomous issue from the Roman times, most likely from the 2nd century AD.
